Prayer- To whom do we pray?
Prayer is not a word limited to Christianity in fact,
prayer applies to almost any religion.
To ask a higher power for something has become such a natural thing,
so we ask, what makes our (Christian) prayer different?
To answer this question, the most straight forward : To whom do we pray?
Creator:
I lift up my eyes into the hills-
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the LORD,
The Maker of heaven and earth. Psalm 121:1-2
The bible claims that the God to whom we pray is the Maker and
creator of all, this is clearly contrasted with other ods?
But their idols are silver and gold,
made by the hands of men.
They have mouths but cannot speak,
eyes but they cannot see; Psalm 115:5-6
The God to whom we pray to is the creator rather than the creation.
So we pray with faith to the God who is able to do all things
Father:
God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts,
the Spirit who calls out, "Abba, Father." Galations 4:6
A Christian prayer differs because the God we approach is not a force
or a power far from us. Just as Jesus our Lord called him Father,
with the spirit of sonship Christians can call God their Abba, Father.
This is very different to that perception that God is distant and
indifferent about us. In fact, as a Father, God cares about us and is willing to
listen and answer our prayer according to the riches of his grace and wisdom.
So we pray with faith to the God who is willing.
Perhaps you have prayed during desperate times.
But who did you pray to?
Is he your Father?
Do you want him to be your Father?
You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus Galatians 3:26
